ELECTRICAL
Caber provided complete engineering, electrical design, procurement, control systems and commissioning for the following projects:
Conventional Gas Plant & Hydro-Carbon Liquids Handling (Central Alberta)
Designed and installed electrical systems, control systems and production plant metering for a 10-mmscf/day dehydration, refrigeration and process compression facility.
Coal-Bed Natural Gas Compressor Station (Central Alberta)
Grass roots 15-mmscf/day CBM compressor station constructed with skid modules supporting separation, de-hydration and compression processes.
Sour Dehydration Facility (Northern Alberta)
Design for an 11% H2S 50 mmscf/day dehydration processing facility with a field gathering system connecting field production sour gas wells on one lateral.
Sour Dehydration Compression Facility (Northern Alberta)
Design for an 18% H2S 60-mmscf/day dehydration compression processing facility with a field gathering system connecting production wells located on two separate pipeline laterals.
POWER SYSTEMS
Generating Plant Transformer (Central Alberta)
Existing thermal power generating plant: Prepared specifications for 450 MVA and 19 KV / 240 KV generator transformer, prepared bid documents, and evaluated the bids..
Distribution System Upgrade (Central Alberta)
Extension of an existing educational facility that involved additions to a 25 kV underground distribution system and adding distribution transformers to supply various new facilities.
Gas Plant Addition (Southern Alberta)
Extension of an existing sour gas processing plant: Prepared detailed design and equipment specifications to upgrade a 2300 V distribution system to 4.16 kV.
Water Injection Addition (Northern Alberta)
Extension of an existing water injection facility.Work included the addition of a medium (4.16kV) voltage switchgear to add a 5000 hp motor-driven water injection pump, a 150 hp booster pump, a switchgear building extension and other equipment for the expansion.
AUTOMATION
Cygnet SCADA Host Optimization (Northern Alberta)
Caber was contracted to investigate, evaluate and resolve system stability issues experienced by a Client at their two sweet gas processing plants located in northern Alberta. Key client objectives were: compliance with ERCB Directive-017; conformance with the Client’s metering, measurement, reporting and business practices; resolve SCADA System issues; and ensure that both plants are able to function self-sufficiently with regard to the SCADA System.
Each plant CygNet system was re-engineered with Client stakeholders defining system functional requirements. These requirements were validated and confirmed through testing and commissioning exercises. Field maintenance personnel were formally trained on the CygNet product platform and then coached and mentored on the on-line system during project commissioning. A system self-sufficient support model was developed with various Client internal support teams and implemented with the model’s key members, Client’s IT group and the CygNet vendor. Each system was monitored for a period of time for any abnormalities before formal turnover to the Client’s support infrastructure. Both systems are now fully under Client care.
STUDIES/AUDITS
Refinery Cooler Motor Failure Audit (Northern Alberta)
Audited two cooling towers to determine the cause of VFD and motor failures. As a direct result, the Client was able to negotiate upgraded motors (including installation) for the RCP cooling tower, at the manufacturer’s cost. The manufacturer also installed output filters between the VFDs and motors (which the manufacturer originally said were not necessary) to smooth out voltage spikes in the motor output.
Quito/Tarapoa SCADA System Technical Audit & System Analysis Study (Ecuador)
Detailed technical audit of existing hardware and software platforms for the Tarapoa oil pipeline SCADA system that included an evaluation of the pipeline leak detection system and its ability to meet corporate requirements. Final report included recommendations to rectify and/or improve system performance.
High Voltage Substation and Distribution System (Northern Alberta)
Prepared studies and cost estimates for a high voltage substation and distribution system design for a grass roots SAGD Oil Sands project.
SAGD Project (Northern Alberta)
Grass roots SAGD Oil Sands Project: Designed a 72/144 kV Substation electrical system studies to determine the optimum conductor size and voltage for the transmission system.
